Ricardo Ramos, born in Viseu (small town in the centre of Portugal ), was a part of Funny Bunny and Gibberish (two bands of same city). Compulsive composer, since 1995 he started recording solo using analogue 4 track recorders loaned by benevolent friends. Up to date and calculating by defect he has more than 150 recorded songs. It's from this work that the project Puny was born. During the year of 1999, he met Rodrigo Paulino and began working with Rudi Dornbusch Meets The Revolutionary Puny Marimbas Experimental Ensemble, of vast aesthetic traces but anchored in experimental and free creative processes.
In the next year they joined Afonso Simões (member of Phoebus, Fish & Sheep,…), and began a new adventure with Cloudland.
Ricardo Ramos, finally meets Sandro Martins, drummer and invites Rodrigo Paulino to play the bass. At the end of 2002, it's finally united the actual line up of the band. In the repertoire are, not only some of the early Ricardo Ramos solo tracks adapted for trio performance, but also new compositions of new members or developed by all three members. Although they tend to reject labelling (for seeing them as a restrictive vision of what they do now or might do in the future), they assume the sound of the band intends to be closer to the universe of north American indie guitar bands, New York No Wave or Post Punk. Not damaging the possibility of maintaining the tunes sensibility in quieter songs.
In 2004 Ricardo Ramos unfolds a new Project untitled An Octopus In The Bathtub, focused on improvisation and noise, releasing the "Two thousand and four" EP on the Merzbau netlabel. From convulsive creation and recording of songs there are 3 extensive releases up to date: "Ho...Nothing" (2-cdr), "January Sessions" (4-cdr) and "ST" (3-cdr).
In 2006 they will release a split-cd with the Bor Land label with Bruno Duarte and Old Jerusalem, entitled Splitted (September 2006). The tracks included in this release cover a vast period of time and gather the fist experiences of Ricardo Ramos and Sandro Martins with the analogue 4-track recorder. A wide range of sounds were included, from the paper draft that turns into a song to the noise session in the bedroom beating up chairs and other objects, with the spontaneity of the 1 st recorded track (previous to any overdubs) as the common ground. Meaning, the main reason to pick these tracks instead of other possible better recorded/played or even "better" compositions is based on the honesty of that first non-repeatable take.
